Volleyball, 1-2

We played "Good Volley Ms Molly" last night, for our last match of the season.  We lost the first two games fairly convincingly.  We won the third game fairly convincingly.  It'd been several weeks since we played, so I'm not surprised by the results.

We didn't make it into the playoffs (not surprisingly), so we're off next week, and probably the following.  After that, a new season starts.

Movies - Best of 2014

2014 was a very, very, very slim year at the theatres for me.  1 movie.  1.

I have not seen that few in a year in probably 40 or 45 years.

That said, it makes my top and bottom film of the year easy to choose:  Into the Woods

At the movies - Into the Woods

Into the Woods - 3

I saw this movie in 2014 while my nieces were in town.  I had very little idea what the movie was.  It turned out to be a film adaptation of a Broadway musical of a mashup of fairy tales.  As such, it was entertaining and worthwhile.  I probably would never have gone on my own.

Recognizable names, to me, from the cast: Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick, Tracy Ullman, and Chris Pine.

The moment when Chris Pine and Billy Magnusson were singing in the river got me to laugh at how over-the-top the moment was.  Planned, I'm sure.

Books read 7/1/2014- 12/31/2014

One of the only good things about catching a bus to my job is the time to read books.  I get about 30 minutes inbound and 30 minutes outbound to read each day.  That has helped to put a serious dent in my to-be-read pile.

34 books started in the second half of the year, 31 finished.  Most of them have been in my To Be Read pile for a good number of years.  More than 10 in a number of cases, possibly 20 for a few of them.

So, for the year: 79 books completed.
There were several I did not finish:

Wurts: a continuation of a series that I did not finish the previous book.
Yarbro: I felt no interest in the characters.
