I went to this class to work with Adam, the student from Wasabi who recently moved up to Stillwater.
We spent the 1 1/2 hour class working on the Double Bokken portion of Koryu Dai San. We made it all of the way through. At least touched on each technique. We got stuck on the last one. We even referenced Nick's youtube video and were unable to make it through the technique.
The next to last move by tori in Nick's video makes no sense to me. Nick blocks a downward strike from uke with the cut coming down on his right side. When uke reloads for another strike, Nick moves to his right, moving across uke's line of cut and makes a strike to uke's left temple.
To me, crossing the line of strike in that situation is unwise. I think the better approach would be to make the block with the strike on the left side of the body and then make the same cut to uke's temple.
But, I am still trying to figure this technique out.
I was up in Oklahoma City for a convention and, as I always do, I stopped by Nick's dojo for the midday class.
They ran through stretches and falls, and then the Walk. At that point will split up to work on individual items. Jim (Dojo Cho) asked what I wanted to work on. I said the double bokken portion of Koryu Dai San. He paired me up with Brad and we worked through a bunch of it. I think we made it through 6 techniques.
We then ended class and I went back to the convention.
